Grandparents As Parents Support Project, Inc is a non-profit organization focused on providing support and resources to grandparents who are parenting their grandchildren. Our dedicated team is committed to offering a wide range of services aimed at making a positive impact on the lives of both grandparents and grandchildren. Through our unique approach and unwavering dedication, we stand out as an organization that truly understands the challenges faced by grandparents in this role. We are nurses, teachers, clergy, business leaders, counselors, social workers, ex-offenders, and grandparents committed to improving the lives and well-being of grandparents and the children they raise.
Our story
The Grandparents as Parents Support Project, Inc was established in 2008 in response to a critical need in our community. After observing a fifteen-year increase in grandparent-led families across St. Louis, a group of service providers and grandparents came together to act. Today, GAP serves as a vital support network, dedicated to advocating for these families and improving their health, stability, and future.

The Program

Serve grandparent caregivers, great-great-grandparents, and other relative caregivers in St. Louis City and St. Louis County in need of assistance or resources to raise their grandchildren. We also assist youth and young adults raised in grandparent families. We use a framework of strengthening and empowering families to advocate for what they need.

Grandparents involved with GAP ranked the following services they need in the order of importance:

Social Services –food, food pantry items, clothing giveaway/thrift, school supplies, direct financial support (i.e., 100 Neediest Cases), and utility assistance.

Housing – home repairs, weatherization, home furnishing, home placements/ relocation, utility assistance.
